Structured Data Cabling: Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, Coax, and more

Its more than simply pulling wire: Structured cabling is the design and installation of a cabling system that will support multiple hardware uses and be suitable for today’s needs and those of the future. With a correctly installed system, current and future requirements can be met, and hardware that is added in the future will be supported.
Structured cabling design and installation is governed by a set of standards that specify wiring data centres, offices, and various buildings for data communications using various kinds of cable, most commonly Cat5e (Category 5e), Cat6 (Category 6), and fibre optic cabling. The goal of the standards is to create a system that everyone can understand and follow with ease. Its more than simply pulling wire: its about doing it right: quality driven and standards based: that’s ITS Telecom.

Design Build Assistance

ITS Telecom is able to create Design Build solutions working closely with multiple stakeholders for success. We know how to interface & provide the requirements to different project champions including: client, designers, engineers, architects, electrical team, construction team, and more. Often today buildings are going up quickly: sometimes with incomplete construction drawings: it takes talent and know how to fill in the blanks, coordinate the team, and do so cost effectively to the client. Fibre, Fibre, Fibre

The team at ITS Telecom is used to installing fibre cables. Multi-mode or single mode no problems: multi-mode is most commonly deployed for connections less than 2000ft and single mode for longer connections. When we are linking two server closets together on a customer’s site, that’s primarily the application for multi-mode fiber cable; whether a standard tight buffer or loose tube cable, the choice is yours. We have done lots of telco single mode fibre demarc extensions running the fibre from the main demarc to the customers server location.

Our most common fibre cable installs carry both an indoor and outdoor fire rating: allowing more flexibility in deployment and electrical code acceptance. Otherwise, you might need end to end conduit or a junction / splice to meet electrical code requirements. We prefer to not junction or splice fibre cable as every connection increases signal loss: and fibre optic electronics require power, ups, and more: so the fewer wiring closets the better.

In more challenging environment deployments we will run an armoured cable for added protection: no one wants a major cable issue: adding an armoured jacket provides a lot more cable protection compared to a standard cable jacket.

ITS Telecom works with lots of different fibre cables including older 62.5 micron fibre, and newer 50 micron typically in either OM3 or OM4 laser optimized 10G cable. We can also source other standard and more specialty cables to suit your application. The most common connector is now LC as that’s the native connector on most switching equipment. We can also install other connectors including; SC, ST, MTRJ, MPO, MU, and other SFF connectors.

In smaller installations we commonly install a less expensive simple small fibre wall box, on larger projects with several fibre cables we will install a fibre patch panel mounted in a 19 inch data rack. The rack mount units make larger fibre patching a lot more professional and neat. Either way we always install a service loop ring to allow for changes or a re-termination of the cable.

ITS Telecom has the fibre tools in house to supply, install, test, and validate your installation. We know the risks of borrowing fibre tools or relying on third party contractors. We always aim for quality and reliability.

IP Paging Speakers change the deployment of traditional audio speaker systems to an intelligent IP network with increased flexibility, options, reporting, and system integrations. Traditional systems do not have the flexibility or features available with modern IP Paging. ITS works with new Cloud Telephony Solutions which are quickly becoming the new standard due to many new feature enhancements: but we still sell and supports a wide range of Traditional Telephone Systems like: Ericsson-LG, NEC, Nortel, Avaya, and others. Some of the older Toshiba, Samsung, Panasonic, Shoretel, and etc are becoming more difficult to source and are now due to be replaced. Demarc Extension

Need a telco line extended we can help.
ITS Telecom specializes in voice and data wiring, we can run telco demarc extensions for: Fibre, Copper, Coax, and more. Lots of time Telus, Shaw, Bell, or another carrier will run on existing cabling, but if there simply is not any in place cable we can help. The big carriers want large straight empty conduits or they usually won’t pull a cable in or want a lot of money – in these situations we can help.
There is not a specific code requiring conduit, we do need access and a viable cable path, but the requirement for end to end conduit is just ease and aesthetics. There are building code rules; but typically, these just mean you need to fire stop, conduit sleeve fire walls, and run an approved ft6 fire retardant rated plenum cable.
ITS Telecom has run lots of single mode fibre runs for telco fibre access from the main entrance point – typically in the basement to the appropriate floor server room. In most cases we will price out a fibre riser run and be a fraction of the price of a big carrier – as often they sub out a lot of this work to contractors, and mark up substantially as most people don’t know there are alternatives.
We had a job for a major retailer in a large mall and it was an old complex run with convoluted conduit paths – we were able to do the job in weeks – not months – and at less than a tenth of the cost – the client was in disbelief – able to maintain opening schedules – the carrier was requiring 600ft of new conduit via the mall ceiling – meaning; after hours work, lifts, security, and mall permission.

We don’t promise we can do every run without some conduit or have magic answers: but we have saved several clients lots of money and allowed them to maintain opening schedules without delays.

Data Cabling Clean Up

Need a little clean up, we are happy to help. Sometimes it’s a server room tidy, Sometimes it’s redoing the patch panels as a re-termination project, sometimes its simply cleaning up the wiring to prepare for the upcoming move, or removing old cabling.
Over the years we have seen a lot of bad cabling, unfortunately, a real lot of bad cabling!!! The characteristics are usually the same; messy, disorganized, no plan, haphazardly done, wrong length patch cords, or one of my favourite mistakes, no patch cords with ends directly crimped on the cable, and generally done unprofessionally.
When ITS Telecom does Data cabling, we aim for a professional job that we would be proud to say “Yes, we did that”. Sure we might be a bit more money, but the differences are significant; especially when compared to some of the disasters we have cleaned up!!!
A few troubles in Data Networks we have seen:
Runs labelled alphabetically: lol – it doesn’t get much worse especially after “z” then what “aa”?
Network loop. Cables are such a mess – it’s not possible to tell where anything goes, so someone mistakenly plugs both ends into a switch sending the network into a feedback loop that floods the network and results in a total network crash until removed. As everything is a mess, finding it takes forever and is almost impossible without disconnecting pretty much everything and starting over.
Patch panels at the ceiling or some other random spot as the cabling is too short or stuffed under a desk.
Random network design: no regard to distance limits or best practices the network is designed totally wrong.
Ends crimped on the cables so poorly that touching a wire causes all sorts of disconnections
